Audio Tracking Robot

How do you track the source of a sound in space?

Using four microphones and a microprocessor, a Mechanical Engineer and I designed, built, and programmed a robot that calculates and points to the source of a sharp sound nearby.

The robot calculates the time differences between four microphones hearing a sound, and then solves a set of four linear equations to locate the 3-Dimensional coordinates of where the sound originated.
